Facter facts are defined in the top-level scope. So you're able to use $::ipaddress, too.

You should say that they go cd /usr/src/ and then download the file.

And the download link is dead.
This one worked.

I see, it seems read over this line :

Basically what I did was boot the target server"

It also explains this which I found rather weird

target:~ # dd if=/dev/sda of=/tmp/source-mbr.img bs=512 count=1

Hi Vincent,

If I'm not mistaking the CloneZilla solution requires both servers to boot a live cd environment, thus disrupting the services.

Using the method I've written down only the target server is booted with a live cd or in this case pxe environment.
No services on the main (source) server are disrupted until you make the final switch to the new server. Which shouldn't take more than a few minutes at worst.

Hi,

The title of your post draw my attention. But as far as I can conclude from your post, you booted with a live cd which requires the machines services (when not booted in to down during your operation. Or am I wrong?

I also did a p2v lately and used Clonezilla which more or less does the same of what you did in an automated fashion.

@Bruno: Have you tried to install the perl-IPC-ShareLite package?

I had to install the following on Centos 5.5

yum install perl-IPC-ShareLite

You could use the following instead of editing the mysql_ plugin:

[mysql*]
user root
env.mysqluser da_admin
env.mysqlpassword removed

(For my charts the da_admin user needed SUPER privileges on the mysql server)

Hi,

you don't need to mess around with expect to filter for --More-- from the output of a "show run" or "show tech" command.

You just need to send a "term length 0" to the Cisco IOS device before sending your various show commands. This command disables paging for the whole time of your session.

Cheers
Zalph.

I'm having consistently this error even installing perl-Cache and perl-Cache-Cache.
# /usr/share/munin/plugins/mysql_ suggest
Missing dependency Cache::Cache at /usr/share/munin/plugins/mysql_ line 703.

I read the same message in several forums, but nobody has a good answer on that.

Could you please give me a clue?
Thanks in advance.

This blog post was only about Apache's worker/threading security and possible privilege escalation issues triggered by (php) scripts. To counter MySQL injections you'd need an application firewall like mod_security. That's however for another blog post. :)

In the meantime you can find more information at http://www.modsecurity.org/.

Very useful article, but what about mysql injection attacks. Those would still be a danger with this, right? Please tell me I'm wrong. :)

This works really nicely. I had a problem at first where I was only getting up to about port 38 in my config files and the rest was truncated. I thought it was TFTP issues, but it came down to the script hanging up on the switch before the TFTP upload was completed. I had to make it wait for the "total bytes copied" statement before sending the exit command. The lower half of my config looks like this now ...

send "copy system:running-config tftp://$tftp/$config\n\n"
expect "$tftp"
send "\n"
expect "$config"
send "\n"
expect "bytes copied"
send "exit\n"
